Model #2-8 "FIGHTING STILETTO" with riveted sheath - 1960'sThis "Fighting Stiletto" was produced during the Vietnam Era and has some interesting features incorporated from that period.
Note that the "flat" guard is stainless steel as is the blade. This design favors the popular full tang models of the 1960's.
Black micarta is used for the handle material and shaped into the traditional swelled center style. There are 7 spacers at the hilt.
The sheath is a Johnson with rivets and ties.
This knife is featured in Randall Fighting Knives in Wartime.
Model #18 "ATTACK-SURVIVAL" with experimental tube and screw capThe knife depicted in these two images has an Orlando blade with a separate "S" stamp. The guard is thick and is rounded at the ends. The hollow handle or "tube" wall measures a full 1/8th inch in thickness. Inside th handle the tang extends one quarter the length. There is no epoxy at the base.
The screw cap is deeply threaded, made from brass and shows hand filing. There is a brass "O" ring soldered onto the top of the cap from its base, probably intended as a wrist thong attachment. The ring has been flattened.
The knife weighs 19 oz., approximately 6 ounces heavier than the standard screw cap model. It is estimated that it was made by Randall somewhere in the 1969-70 time frame, a full 2-3 years before this design was standardized.
Reference is made to a similar knife described by D. Beaucant in an article appearing in RKS newsletter #25, January 1995, page 4.
